We were lucky to be at Disneyland Hong Kong for Day 1 of their A Sparkling Christmas. This Christmas special started last November 15 and will continue January 1.  A Sparkling Christmas is not as extravagant as their afternoon parade or the fireworks display but it created a festive tone for the season.

A Christmas Illumination starts at 6:45 PM at Main St. Before the ceremony started, the houses at Main St. we already beaming with bright lights. But we were clueless as to what will happen. Will there be a parade too? Where will the parade start? Will there be something surprising to see?

DADDY TIP: Always check the Hong Kong Disneyland website for new attractions before visiting. Our original schedule to be in Disneyland was on November 14. We quickly changed our itinerary when we learned that A Sparkling Christmas starts on November 15.

The lights and decor at Main St. screams of Christmas

The Hong Kong Disneyland Christmas Tree Lighting program starts with an a capella choir singing classic Christmas Carols. Their voices were so cool which adds to the cold breeze of Hong Kong in November. It was a short presentation of about 2-3 songs. I wished they sang a little longer. This was followed by a short parade of men and women who were dressed in sparkling white dress. They were carrying a staff with a big snowflake design on top of it towards the giant Christmas Tree.

DADDY TIP: The best location to watch the parade is just in the middle of Main St. Don’t be too close to the Christmas Tree since the fireworks is best viewed from a distance.

When they reach the Christmas Tree, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy entered while riding a sleigh driven by two golden reindeers. They were all wearing a Santa costume and address the crowd in Chinese. I don’t understand what Mickey was saying.

Then the lights long Main St. were all turned off. You know what will happen next. In a few seconds, the Christmas Tree turned on and its lights were changing beautifully like the colors of a rainbow. A burst of fireworks was seen at the background with the audience clapping and cheering at the festive moment.

The lights on Main St. were restored and what followed next was probably the fun part — the falling of snow from above. Of course, they were not real snow but Gab was really entertained by them as they fall and land on our hands and shirts.

Mickey and the Gang made an exit while the lights and the snow continued until Disneyland Hongkong closes at 9:00 pm.

DADDY TIP: Buy your Disney merchandises at the Main St. stores prior to the Christmas Tree lighting. The stores gets very crowded afterwards. Or ask the cashier if you can leave your unpaid items with them and just be back for it after the tree lighting.

Let it snow, let it snow!

It was a short show but it still kept all of us entertained. With this new attraction, I believe that November is the best month to be in Hongkong Disneyland.
